E-bike app development was exactly what BOND (E-Bike On Demand) needed: a ground-up rebuild of a premium shared e-bike service running in Switzerland and Germany, with high-speed e-bikes for longer urban trips across cities like Zürich, Munich, Hamburg, and Bern. The service first launched as Smide before relaunching as BOND for international growth.
mile.dev owned the design and development of the native iOS and Android apps and built a modern backend to replace the slow parts of the legacy system. Our e-bike app development covered the entire ride experience, from onboarding and payments to booking, geofencing, and ride history, so every part of the product felt fast and cohesive. We also crafted a clean, consistent UI and a full style guide, then shipped it as a polished app on both platforms.

The shared-mobility space was crowded, and BOND was benchmarked against the best apps in the world:

BOND’s original backend was slow, so we built a lean Node.js and Express backend to take over the slow functionality. Over time it grew to power most of the product, while the legacy system was left handling only the communication with the bike hardware.
We studied the best mobility apps on the market, from Lyft and Uber to Lime and TIER, and distilled what worked into a new e-biking experience. Development stayed flexible, with scope adjusted continuously as the product evolved.
We also handled ongoing support and maintenance, working as an integrated part of the BOND team.
Because the apps and the backend evolved together, the build stayed tightly coordinated: new features on iOS and Android were matched by backend endpoints as the Node.js service absorbed more of the product. That let BOND ship quickly and keep improving the ride experience without the aging legacy system holding the roadmap back. The outcome was a single, coherent system that ran faster and cost far less to operate than the setup BOND started with.
mile.dev worked with BOND until they built their own in-house tech team, delivering a full native mobile product and a backend that carried most of the platform.
BOND’s Head of IT credited us with high-quality code and more than 40% savings compared to their previous local partner. Their Delivery Lead described the collaboration as working with an internal team of great colleagues, shipping features quickly and steadily increasing customer satisfaction.
The result was a polished, competitive product that BOND’s own team could carry forward with confidence. Years on, it remains one of our strongest examples of native mobile app development delivered end to end.
